dc.description.abstractCities have become focal points of our lives today. The foremost indicator of this fact is that the majority of word population is living in the cities. Changing conditions of demographic, economic, social, physical and technological structures and tools affect the planning processes, approaches to cities, conservation of urban values and urban design which in turn plays a determining role on the quality of life for coming generations. These dynamics prepare the ground for search of new politics, perspectives and development models, which in turn lead to identity differentiation and role changes of cities. This process calls for a revision of our concept of the city and creates new opportunities as well as new problems. This emerging urban vision creation process brings the existing natura!, historical and cultural values of the city to the foreground. On the other hand, the deteriorated urban areas or areas that have lost their functions are appearing on the agenda as potential transformation areas or as new development areas monitored by the new urban dynamics. Ali these changes furnish new perspectives in the search for planning and designing the city where concepts such as urban transformation, urban regeneration and urban visions are used as problem solving tools. Elephant & Castle Area in London, Darling Harbour in Sydney, Society Hill Area in Philadelphia, Waterfront of Barcelona, Dikmen Valley in Ankara, The Haliç Project in İstanbul are some of the examples implemented within the above mentioned approaches to the city. The aim of the lnternational 14th Urban Design and lmplementations Symposium is to probe and discuss concepts models, examples and suggestions on transformation areas tlıat play a vital role on tlıe quality of urban life in cities tlıat lıave steppedforward in world conjuncture today. The Symposium intends to invite native and foreigner academicians, researchers, professionals, public and private sector specialists, city planners, architects, landscape architects and ali actors who are related to the issue in theory or in practice, and provide them a discussion platform. The resolutions of the Symposium will be consequently published.en_US
